Canadian Psychedelic Summit

August 13-17, 2025

Shape the Future.

August 13-17, 2025

We are on the precipice of a new psychedelic revolution. Join leaders across sectors to shape the future of psychedelic research, practice, therapy, entrepreneurship, and policy in Canada.

Centering Indigenous and voices of colour, our mission is to imbue the psychedelic landscape with greater diversity, practicing a way of being with equity and accountability at our core.

We gather on the traditional, ancestral, unceded territory of the Klahoose, Tla’amin, and Homalco Nations, on beautiful Cortes Island, BC.

Who Should Attend

This interdisciplinary Summit welcomes individuals from the psychedelic community as a whole. We invite people working across research, not-for-profit, public health, underground, market, government, and other communities to bring their valuable experience and knowledge to this interdisciplinary space.

With a key outcome to shape a more equitable field, we encourage in particular participants from equity-denied communities to attend, including folks who identify as BIPOC, LGBTQ2S+, neurodiverse, physically disabled, and those seeking economic equity.

Scholarships are open until June 22.

Morning Plenary with Erika Dyck, Reanna Daniels, Kelly Daniels
11:00 am - 12:30 pm
Preserving our Roots: a historical look at traditions and their enduring influence in the psychedelic resurgence
Where: Olatunji Hall
Presenter: Erika Dyck, Reanna Daniels, Kelly Daniels

The psychedelic resurgence of the 21st century revisits some of the therapeutic practices developed in the 1950s, while acknowledging a longer set of traditions existed within Indigenous healing approaches. However, some of the fundamental principles of psychedelic therapy to this day continue to rely on a relationship between western medicine and Indigenous spiritual and healing traditions. In the 1950s, psychiatrist Humphry Osmond, who coined the word psychedelic, participated in a Native American Church ceremony, and consumed peyote as part of the ritual. His participation was not random, but built upon his long-standing interest in Indigenous and anthropological claims about the context of psychedelic experiences. His observations contributed to early recommendations for paying attention to aspects of “set and setting” and helped to refine clinical approaches to topics like the acoustic environment, group dynamics, preparation and integration. While current clinical practices continue to pay attention to“set and setting”, the historical partnership between Indigenous and Western practices has often been overlooked. In the first part of this presentation, historian Erika Dyck traces some of this early history that combined clinical and ceremonial practices to interrogate key features of the psychedelic experience. In the second part, NAC members Kelly and Reanna Daniels (descendants of the ceremony that Osmond participated in) reflect on the practices of the NAC and consider how we may benefit from restoring this relationship with Indigenous knowledge keepers.
