Pego’s Cabin

Tucked above the shoreline, Pego’s Cabin offers sweeping ocean views from every window; a perfect private retreat for one or two guests.

This cozy cabin features a queen bed, a comfortable sitting area, a kitchenette, a private bathroom, and a sunlit deck overlooking the expanse of Desolation Sound. Peaceful and secluded, it’s a haven for rest, reflection, and connection with the natural world.

Ocean View Beach House

Nestled at the water’s edge, the Beach House offers panoramic views of Desolation Sound. These oceanview rooms feature a private bathroom with shower and access to a shared and comfortable common area. Step onto the spacious seaside deck and take in the fresh salt air.

The Beach House predates Hollyhock itself, built in the 1950s as a cottage-style coastal home. In the early Cold Mountain era it was a family residence; new cedar rooms were added over the following decades, with the final additions completed in the 1990s. Its river-rock fireplace and simple forms are a quiet reminder of that long history beside the sea.

Beach House

Located in the same Beach House at the water’s edge, these rooms offer a peaceful garden outlook and easy access to the oceanfront deck.

Each room includes either a private or shared bathroom with a shower, as well as access to the shared common spaces. Surrounded by lush greenery and just steps from the sea, these rooms offer a serene balance of comfort and connection to nature.

Carousel

Perched atop a bluff among towering cedars, Carousel offers a peaceful retreat immersed in nature. These cozy rooms feature a comfortable queen bed, a small writing desk, and shared Jack-and-Jill style bathrooms connecting two rooms.

Some rooms offer glimpses of the ocean, while others open to the quiet beauty of the forest. Each provide a restful space to unwind and recharge.

One of the oldest buildings on campus, Carousel dates back to the Cold Mountain Institute days of the mid-1970s. It was built in just eight months from western red cedar — a community effort spearheaded by green builder pioneer David Rousseau, with kitchen staff joining the construction crew to get it finished in time for an incoming season of guests.

Carousel Dormitories

Carousel’s dormitory accommodations offer a cozy and communal retreat among the cedar trees. Each dorm features comfortable bunk beds and a shared bathroom, with options for female, male, or all-gender bookings.

From the wraparound deck, enjoy the soothing sounds of the forest and glimpses of the ocean.

Gingerbread

Tucked among the trees near the main parking area, Gingerbread is a large cedar building that offers spacious and easily accessible accommodations, ideal for guests with mobility needs.

Gingerbread has six comfortable rooms that offer tranquil forest views, with some glimpses of the ocean beyond. Most rooms boast two queen beds, ideal as a private or shared accommodation space. Generous in size and comfort, these rooms provide a upscale cabin experience while keeping you close to the natural beauty of the island.

Gingerbread was built during a period of thoughtful campus expansion in the late 1990s — interestingly, on the same spot where green builder pioneer David Rousseau had originally constructed his own personal cabin years before.

Orchard Cabins

Tucked just beyond the heritage orchard, the Orchard Cabins offer a cozy retreat surrounded by forest. These charming cabins are built from the land and provide a simple yet comfortable space to rest and reconnect with nature.

Available as private or shared room, each cabin is steps away from the shared bathhouse. These peaceful, hand built cabins are perfect for those who appreciate the quiet beauty of island life and the rhythm of the forest.

Hand-built from local cedar in the early days of Hollyhock, these cabins were designed from the start to foster a close relationship with the land and the community around you, a spirit that still defines them today.

Bluff House

Perched above the ocean and reached by a short forest trail, Bluff House offers bright and tranquil rooms with views stretching through the trees to the sea below.

This unique house features three guest rooms that share two bathrooms. Its welcoming common area also serves as a session space for small groups. Each room has its own character, and can be booked as private or shared accommodations. Experience Hollyhock from a serene perch above the shore.

Built from the same local cedar that defines so much of the campus, Bluff House was constructed by community members Rex Weyler, David Shipway, Elmer Ellingsen, and Hubert Havelaar, and for a time served as a family home — giving it a warmth and lived-in character that sets it apart.

Lisa’s A-Frame

Just before the heritage orchard, the A-Frame Cabin sits. It offers a cozy, woodsy space and that classic cabin charm. With its peaceful surroundings, these accommodations are perfect for guests who enjoy a simple, nature-immersed stay.

It boasts a mix of private rooms and a three-share room, all with access to shared bathrooms.

The A-Frame has been part of this landscape since the 1970s, its cedar frame gradually weathering into the forest around it as the Hollyhock campus grew and evolved. Its original character has been thoughtfully preserved through every adaptation since.

Foxglove Cabin is a charming standalone cabin featuring a cozy queen bed. This private cabin promises a room immersed in nature, and shares the beautifully crafted bathhouse with the camping sites. The bathhouse is complete with hot showers and flush toilets, and is only a few steps away from the cabin.
