With Kimo Hussey

July 3 - 8, 2020

We look forward to offering this event next summer, July 2-7, 2021. You may find details on Hollyhock’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic here

Discover a blueprint to learning, playing, and enjoying ukulele for many years. Maximize your skill and satisfaction with this inexpensive, portable, forgiving and fun instrument that is experiencing a worldwide renaissance. The three main topics of this program – right hand technique, left hand technique, and music theory – offer you a map for ongoing continued practice and inspired playing.

Players of all levels benefit from time spent with Kimo. He will oversee both beginner and mastery programs with help from fellow musicians and a hula instructor. Make music with other beginner and experienced players through Kanikapila (jam sessions) as well as optional hula lessons, culminating in a final performance.

For Beginners

The ukulele is easy to learn, portable, and FUN to play. Kimo will share his master blueprint to learning, playing, and enjoying this beautiful instrument for many years to come. Make music with other beginners and more experienced players through Kanikapila (jam sessions) as well as optional hula lessons.

For Advancing Mastery

Move beyond basic ukulele technique and establish effective practice strategies to master this joyful instrument. Identify the type of ukulele player you aspire to be and your favourite style of music to play. Explore fretboard geography, embellished chords, signature progressions, melodies, harmonies, and critical listening. Kanikapalu (jam sessions) and optional hula lessons culminate in a final performance.

Kimo gives us a warm ‘Aloha!’ from the Ukulele Guild of Hawaii and plays an excerpt from “In Your Hawaiian Way”:
