Love Actually: Learning to Balance Power and Love

With Deepa Narayan, Eric Mulholland and Peggy Taylor

June 8 - 12, 2025

Hollyhock’s core purpose, since its origin, has been inner transformation for outer change in community with others. A place for body, mind and spirit renewal.

This workshop draws from mystics, philosophers, neuroscience, psychology and community arts practices to explore the ideas of power and love as the foundational drives of human beings.

Power without love is abusive and love without power invites abuse.

Through experiential learning using the arts and ritual, we will explore the dynamics of power and love, the tensions between the two, and how they play out in achieving goals at both the personal and societal levels.

Power and love are wrapped in gender, race, class, ability, and identities. We will look at how we think about love and power, and how we can use it in everyday life, at work, and at home to move closer towards our consciously chosen future selves.

We will develop skills in deep listening, self regulation, conflict resolution and forgiveness as a means of balancing these powerful forces to move closer towards our consciously chosen future selves.
