Heather Midori Yamada
Heather Midori Yamada is a visual artist and teacher who specializes in contemplative approaches to art making. Heather is inspired by holistic creative practices such as meditation, hatha yoga and Japanese arts such ikebana, flower arrangement and calligraphic brush work. Her studies in printmaking led her to discover the ‘world of washi’; centuries old hand made paper from her ancestral Japan. Chine collé and monotypes using live plant matter gave way to direct painting, dyeing and patterning on heritage Japanese washi papers. The resulting banners, collages and mixed media paintings have formed the body of her visual explorations for exhibitions and for international workshops. Heather Midori’s artworks can be found in over forty public and corporate collections as well as in many private ones. Heather Midori invites new and seasoned students to join her on a relaxed and yet guided deep dive into intuitive mark-making with Japanese sumi ink and colour explorations in watercolour and acrylic on various washis. Be prepared for fun and structured learning in a calm and supported environment.
