Food & Dining
Position: Lead Cook
Reports to: Chef/Sous Chef
Start Date: May 2025
Hours and Location: Full-time, Seasonal on Cortes Island
Starting Wage: $26/hour
ABOUT THE ROLE
Our Hollyhock kitchen team possesses a passion for creating beautiful and delicious foods for a diverse crowd of guests.
This position is responsible for providing the highest quality and maximum production in all areas of food preparation. The Lead Cook is a team leader, assisting in managing culinary operations and providing consistent quality food preparation to ensure guest satisfaction. They are responsible for ensuring that the meal is served on time and up to the standards given and for ensuring excellent production resulting in minimal food wastage or spoilage in the kitchen. This position also provides direction and guidance to the 2nd Cooks, 3rd Cooks, hosts, and other Kitchen Staff.
The Lead Cook can work in a busy environment, has the ability and passion to take ownership to execute tasks, and can competently perform a variety of cooking methods and food preparation tasks.
Position: Second Cook
Reports to: Kitchen Manager
Start Date: May 2025
Hours and Location: Full-time Seasonal, on Cortes Island
Starting Wage: $24/hour
ABOUT THE ROLE
Hollyhock cooks have a passion for creating beautiful and delicious foods that enliven and nourish all. Second Cooks have a positive and friendly attitude, are committed to proper sanitation and share a strong work ethic. They are willing and able to learn and they are open to following directions, receiving feedback, and offering their highest abilities and efforts to all jobs at hand. This position requires cooks who are inspired to feature the garden’s daily harvest within all meals and integrate our garden’s organic vegetables, herbs, edible flowers, and fruits. It is integral that meals are offered on time, the food is beautiful, fresh, healthy, and prepared to the highest standards with positive energy. Working in the Hollyhock kitchen is a team-centered environment. It is a place where guests, students, and presenters experience and taste on a daily basis the actions of what Hollyhock is essentially about – nourishing and inspiring people.
This position is exposed to long hours working on your feet, and operating kitchen equipment where safety is of utmost importance. You may be asked to work outside of regular working hours or split shifts as needed, which may include evenings, weekends, holidays and extended hours as business dictates.
Position: Third Cook/Dishwasher
Reports to: Meal Services Manager
Start Date: May 2025
Hours and Location: Full-time, Seasonal on Cortes Island
Wage: $23 per hour for 18 years and older / minimum wage for youth
ABOUT THE ROLE
Hollyhock cooks have a passion for creating beautiful and delicious foods that enliven and nourish all. As a Third Cook you will be part of a dynamic high performing team preparing meals from our renowned Hollyhock kitchen.
The Third Cook ensures that health and safety standards are followed during all food preparation at their assigned station. Third Cooks are responsible for the cleanliness and appearance of their station and the kitchen in general. You have a positive and friendly attitude, are committed to proper sanitation, and share a strong work ethic. You are willing and able to learn and are open to following directions, receiving feedback, and off ering your highest abilities and eff orts to all jobs at hand. Working in the Hollyhock kitchen is a team-centered environment. It is a place where guests, students, and presenters experience and taste on a daily basis the actions of what Hollyhock is essentially about – nourishing and inspiring people.
In this position you will be exposed to continuous deadlines, long hours working on your feet, and operating kitchen equipment where safety is of utmost importance. Hollyhock is a seven day a week operation and you may be asked to work outside of regular working hours or split shifts as needed. This may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as business dictates.
Guest Services
Position: Arrival Day Housekeeper
Reports to: Housekeeping Supervisor and Housekeeping Crew Chief
Start Date: March/April – November 2025
Hours and Location: Seasonal, part-time hours on Cortes Island
Wage: Starting $23-25 per hour depending on experience
ABOUT THE ROLE
Hollyhock Housekeeping is an important part of our operational team. Ensuring the overall cleanliness of our guest rooms, session spaces, hot tubs and grounds. Arrival Day Housekeepers are needed on our busy turnover days to help with general cleaning and making rooms for arriving guests. A positive attitude and clear communication is essential. This is a physical role with a need for speed and quality. This role will be scheduled for arrival departure days through our season, you will have your full schedule of work from April – November and be able to plan the rest of your life accordingly. There will be an included bonus for those who work the full season without missing any days.

Wage: Starting $23-25/hour, depending on experience
ABOUT THE ROLE
Hollyhock Housekeepers are a key part of our operational team. Ensuring the overall cleanliness of our Island Campus guest rooms, session spaces, hot tubs and grounds. Housekeepers support our busy turnover days and help with general cleaning of all campus spaces. A positive attitude and clear communication is essential. Our Housekeeping team provides guest room check-in support and answer any guest inquiries while out on the grounds. This is a physical role with a need for speed and quality. Housekeepers integrate best practices and procedures that keep the department and the campus running smoothly.

Position: Maintenance Crew
Reports to: Maintenance Supervisor

ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor the Maintenance crew keeps Hollyhock infrastructure safe, in working order and in good repair. Ensuring that all buildings and systems run smoothly and are well maintained under the direction of the Maintenance Manager. A positive attitude, attention to detail and clear communication is essential in daily contact with guests, volunteers and staff.
Maintenance Staff are responsible for following all safety guidelines set out in the Hollyhock Communicable Disease Plan to ensure a safe environment for guests & staff.
Development
Position: Director of Development
Reports to: CEO
Location: Remote within BC, Hybrid
Term: Full-time (40 hours per week), permanent
Starting Wage: $80k to $100k depending on experience plus benefits
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Director of Development will play a pivotal role in advancing Hollyhock’s mission by leading and executing our comprehensive fundraising strategy. This position requires a dynamic, results-oriented leader with a proven track record in securing significant philanthropic support.
The Director of Development will work closely with the CEO, and the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), Development support team, to meet and exceed our annual fundraising goals. This role is relational, entrepreneurial, requiring bold thinking and innovative approaches to fundraising.
