Have you ever had an experience where you actually fully relaxed? That moment when something in your body releases that you didn’t even realize you were holding?
Most of us don’t take enough time to bring the nervous system and body into a state of full rest. Active release involves being an active and conscious participant in letting go of tension. This is very different from passive release, which is what happens when you sleep.
Intentional acoustic music can aid us in letting go, as auditory vibrations soothe the nervous system and provide a focus point so that attention does not wander.
Enjoy this 7-minute active release sequence, a recorded snippet from a 90-minute live program with Loretta Laurin and David Yates. In this recording David is improvising on a Native drone flute made by BlueStar on the Sunshine Coast, BC. Find a place where you can comfortably lie down on the floor (you may use a yoga mat or blanket), and play this audio meditation through your speakers or in cordless headphones. Enjoy!
