Janet Moore is an interdisciplinary leader and mentor who cares deeply about how we co-create projects and systems that allow us to thrive together on this incredible planet. Janet has spent her career finding ways to address complex sustainability challenges by designing educational programs and leading teams to imagine what’s possible. Janet spent the last 20 years imagining, designing and facilitating university programs that focus on dialogue, social innovation, group process, divergent thinking and urban sustainability at SFU, UBC and CityStudio. She co-created and co-taught for 16 years in the SFU Semester in Dialogue program and co-founded and co-directed CityStudio–an innovation hub that connects students with City Hall.
She has a BSc in Marine Biology (passion for oceans, whales and intertidal zones) and an MSc in Ecology fell in love with teaching, hummingbirds & west coast). Her doctoral work at UBC combined lessons from the School of Community and Regional Planning (urban sustainability, systems and feminist planning) and the Faculty of Education (transformative learning & participatory methods). Janet is a settler living on the unceded traditional lands of the Musqueam (xʷməθkʷəy̓əm), Squamish (Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw) and Tsleil-Waututh (səl̓ilw̓ətaʔɬ) Nations. Janet recently developed a net zero duplex as one small act of climate adaptation. She is currently forest bathing, writing, mentoring and consulting while dreaming about her next project.
