Our presenters are curated for their quality, depth, integrity, and alignment with our educational purpose. Since 1982, a distinguished faculty of authors, educators, activists, artists, performers, and practitioners have shared their work at our Cortes Island campus and in Vancouver.
Hiromi Goto

Hiromi Goto has been a trail-blazing author in Canada for over twenty years. Recognized both at home and abroad, many of her award-winning books have been translated into French, Italian, Japanese, Hebrew, Korean, and German. Her literary fiction traces the lives of Japanese Canadian women— through migration, across generations. Her works that explore the fantastic weave across cultures casting mythologies, feminism, queerness, and agency into contemporary frameworks. Her newest book, Shadow Life, is a graphic novel for an adult audience. It was the 2022 Asia Pacific American Literature Award Winner in Adult Fiction and a finalist for the LA Times Book Prize. She has mentored writers and taught creative writing at The Writer’s Studio at Simon Fraser University, and UBC.
