Our presenters are curated for their quality, depth, integrity, and alignment with our educational purpose. Since 1982, a distinguished faculty of authors, educators, activists, artists, performers, and practitioners have shared their work at our Cortes Island campus and in Vancouver.
Janelle Hanchett is an author, editor, writing teacher, and mother of four. Writing after her kids went to bed, between graduate school classes, and on lunch breaks from her “real” job, Janelle founded her irreverent, unapologetic blog “Renegade Mothering” in 2011.
Eventually her website grew to draw hundreds of thousands of readers each month and attracted the attention of a literary agent. Her memoir, “I’m Just Happy To Be Here,” sold to Hachette Book Group and was published in May 2018. Janelle holds a B.A. and M.A. in literature, has taught writing at the university level, and has been independently leading creative writing workshops and retreats around the world for almost a decade. In 2019, she moved with her family from her native northern California to Haarlem, Netherlands. She misses street tacos, mountains, and her mom. Not so much the guns.
