Michael Moore is a naturalist, a Coast Guard trained ship’s Navigation Officer, and a kayak instructor/guide with 25+ years experience around Cortes Island. Mike holds a Bachelor of Technology in Nautical Sciences from the Canadian Coast Guard officer training in Sydney, Nova Scotia. His work as a navigation officer aboard Coast Guard ships has taken him to all three Canadian coasts, the high arctic and the Panama Canal.
From his childhood explorations of coastal tide pools to studying marine biology at the University of Victoria, to his navigation work from the high Arctic to Antarctica, Mike’s life has always revolved around the ocean. He is a naturalist at heart and one of the ways he works to protect to the ocean is to share his knowledge and love of marine life. With a great sense of humour, the gift of a storyteller, and a boatload of great stories, his enthusiasm is infectious.
