Garden Tip: How to Put Your Garden to Bed

In this Garden Tip video, Hollyhock Gardener Dana shares a few basic practices that you should do to make sure that your garden is safely asleep for the winter.
In the fall most of the Hollyhock garden gets chopped down to the ground with the exception of some overwintering vegetables and flowers like kale, rose bushes, and hydrangeas, which will be pruned in the spring. Once everything is chopped down, it’s time to mulch your garden. Mulching not only protects your plants, but also helps to keep the weeds down. At Hollyhock we use oat straw but you could also use seaweed or just leaves.
