Position: Sous Chef / Kitchen Supervisor

ABOUT THE ROLE
The Sous Chef is a leadership position that assists with the responsibilities of the Chef when the Chef is not present. The Sous Chef assists in leading the kitchen team to provide fresh, seasonal, nourishing food that is beautifully and consistently presented to our guests. They also uphold consistent quality service to ensure guest satisfaction and manage the safe delivery of allergen-free meals to guests with dietary restrictions. The Sous Chef is able to step in and perform all duties and functions in the kitchen and will regularly be scheduled to perform Lead Cook in addition to admin duties.
You are a creative, motivated professional who contributes to prep work and knows how to delegate appropriately. You know how to follow through on tasks, are a strong communicator, and take ownership of your work. You can motivate and inspire the kitchen and hosting team, and you have a genuine enthusiasm towards our guests and have a positive impact on their entire experience at Hollyhock. You will ensure that health and safety standards are followed, that the standards of service are met, and that staff feel their needs are heard and addressed.
You can competently perform a variety of cooking methods and food preparation tasks. You can write and follow recipes, weigh and measure food accurately, and have an understanding of the major techniques and principles used in cooking, baking, and pastry. This position is responsible for providing the highest quality and maximum production in all areas of food preparation. You are responsible for ensuring that the meal is served on time and up to the standards given and for ensuring excellent production resulting in minimal food wastage or spoilage in the kitchen. This sous chef leads a diverse team and actively participates in decision-making, collaboration, and communication loops with all Supervisors and Managers on our Cortes Campus.
Position: Hosting Supervisor

ABOUT THE ROLE
The Hosting Supervisor is a team leader, assisting in managing the hosting team and providing consistent quality service to ensure guest satisfaction. You work closely with the Meals Manager and Kitchen Supervisor to ensure that health and safety standards are followed, that the standards of service are met, and that the needs of Hosting staff and guests are addressed. You provide training, direction, and guidance to new hires and the hosting team in general. You glide through a fast-paced environment, with presence and attentiveness, and you have a genuine enthusiasm towards our guests.

collaboration, and communication loops with all Supervisors and Managers on our Cortes Campus.

ABOUT THE ROLE
Our Hollyhock kitchen team possesses a passion for creating beautiful and delicious foods for a diverse crowd of guests. Our First Cook exhibits empowered leadership within a dynamic high performing team.
This position is responsible for providing the highest quality and maximum production in all areas of food preparation. The 1st Cook is a team leader, assisting in managing culinary operations and providing consistent quality food preparation to ensure guest satisfaction. The 1st Cook ensures that health and safety standards are followed during all methods of food preparation. They are responsible for ensuring that the meal is served on time and up to the standards given and for ensuring excellent production resulting in minimal food wastage or spoilage in the kitchen. This position also provides direction and guidance to the 2nd Cooks, hosts, and other kitchen staff in the absence of the Kitchen Manager.

Second Cooks have a positive and friendly attitude, are committed to proper sanitation and share a strong work ethic. They are willing and able to learn and they are open to following directions, receiving feedback, and offering their highest abilities and efforts to all jobs at hand. This position requires cooks who are inspired to feature the garden’s daily harvest within all meals and integrate our garden’s organic vegetables, herbs, edible flowers, and fruits. It is integral that meals are offered on time, the food is beautiful, fresh, healthy, and prepared to the highest standards with positive energy. Working in the Hollyhock kitchen is a team-centered environment. It is a place where guests, students, and presenters experience and taste on a daily basis the actions of what Hollyhock is essentially about – nourishing and inspiring people.
This position is exposed to continuous deadlines, long hours working on your feet, and operating kitchen equipment where safety is of utmost importance. You may be asked to work outside of regular working hours or split shifts as needed, which may include evenings, weekends, holidays and extended hours as business dictates.
Position: Third Cook/Dishwasher

Hours and Location: Full-time, Seasonal on Cortes Island
Wage: $18 per hour for 18 years and older / minimum wage for minors
ABOUT THE ROLE
Hollyhock cooks have a passion for creating beautiful and delicious foods that enliven and nourish all. As a Third Cook you will be part of a dynamic high performing team preparing meals from our renowned Hollyhock kitchen. The healthy, organic, vegetarian fare features ingredients from the abundant French-Intensive garden located just outside our kitchen door.
The Third Cook ensures that health and safety standards are followed during all food preparation at their assigned station. Third Cooks are responsible for the cleanliness and appearance of their station and the kitchen in general. You have a positive and friendly attitude, are committed to proper sanitation, and share a strong work ethic. Guest Services
Position: Housekeeping Supervisor
Reports to: Guest Services Manager
Start Date: March 2025 – November 2025
Hours and Location: Seasonal, full time hours on Cortes Island
Wage: $27/hour
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Hollyhock Housekeeping team is organized and efficient in the cleaning and preparing of rooms for arriving and departing guests from Hollyhock programs. This team has a strong knowledge of the campus and is able to assist in guest inquiries when out on the grounds.
The Housekeeping Supervisor works closely with the Guest Services Manager to streamline the efficiency of this department. Tasks include day-to-day cleaning of facilities, laundry, restocking of supplies, and room turnovers. You will direct, support and supervise a team of housekeeping staff on our Arrival/Departure days to prepare rooms for arriving guests.
Housekeepers are responsible for following all safety guidelines set out in the Hollyhock Safety Plan to ensure a safe environment for guests & staff.
Position: Guest Service Representative
Reports to: Guest Services Manager

ABOUT THE ROLE
The Guest Representative is the first welcoming point of contact guests have upon arriving. This position is tasked with providing outstanding service while performing the daily activities of the front desk. This includes the completion of guest check in & check out, taking reservations, answering phones and emails while handling various guest inquiries. Registration is the communication hub for guests, presenters and staff.
Our guest representatives are personable, gracious, mature-minded, and resourceful; with top-notch communication and interpersonal skills. Their main priority is to support an enjoyable and memorable experience for our guests. You take great pleasure in providing service. You embody grace under pressure. Position: General Housekeeper & Outdoor Guest Services

ABOUT THE ROLE
Hollyhock Housekeepers & Outdoor Guest Services team are an important part of our operational team! Ensuring the overall cleanliness of our Island Campus guest rooms, session spaces, hot tubs and grounds. Housekeepers are needed on our busy turnover days to help with general cleaning and making rooms for arriving guests. A positive attitude and clear communication is essential. Our Housekeepers & OGS team provide guest room check in support and answer any guest inquiries while out on the grounds. This is a physical role with a need for speed and quality.
Position: Shuttle Driver
Reports to: Guest Service Manager
Start Date: May 2023
Hours and Location: Cortes Island, Seasonal part time
Starting Wage: $18/hour
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Shuttle Driver is accountable for transporting Hollyhock guests to and from various island pick-up points in a safe manner while ensuring that transportation deadlines are met. The Shuttle Driver also collaborates closely with the Guest Service team of Hollyhock to ensure a high quality guest experience.
Shuttle Drivers are responsible for following all safety guidelines set out in the Hollyhock Covid-19 Safety Plan to ensure a safe environment for guests & staff. These guidelines include cleaning & hygiene, physical distancing and wearing a mask or other PPE when required.
Campus
Position: Maintenance Crew
Reports to: Facilities Manager
Start Date: March 2025
Hours and Location: Cortes Island, Seasonal (May-Nov)
Starting Wage: $18-19/hour to start
ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting to the Facilities Manager, the crew keeps Hollyhock infrastructure safe, in working order and in good repair. Ensuring that all buildings and systems run smoothly and are well maintained under the direction of the Maintenance Manager. A positive attitude, attention to detail and clear communication is essential with daily contact with guests, volunteers and staff.

Position: Caretaker/Maintenance Supervisor
Reports to: Campus Director/Senior Lands Manager

Starting Wage: $26-30/hour (based on experience) with benefits
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Maintenance Supervisor/Facility Caretaker is key to the successful operation of Hollyhock’s Cortes Island campus. Working under the direction of the Campus Director and Senior Lands Manager, the Maintenance Supervisor/Facilities Caretaker will ensure the site is safe, clean, and operational for our retreat center participants, community members, staff, and other visitors. This role seeks a creative problem-solver who can work independently, including evening and weekends and hands-on to fix, repair, and replace items.
The Maintenance Supervisor/Facilities Caretaker ensures that all buildings and systems run smoothly and are well maintained. Compensation:$68kto $78k depending on experience, plus benefits
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Communications and Marketing Manager role is responsible for crafting Hollyhock’s communication strategy, content, and core messages in support of our purpose and vision. This will include communicating our programmatic offering and experiences, fundraising, and overall organization impact. As a 43 year old organization, there is much colour, richness, and history of the impact and influence Hollyhock has held as an organization deeply committed to inner work and social transformation.
