Did you know that you can actually grow wasabi and that it’s a root? Hollyhock Gardener Dana shows us how to replant, grow, and harvest wasabi root (rhizome). Wasabi plants are native perennials, they grow best in high humidity conditions and do not like dry, hot weather which make them perfect for our garden on Cortes Island. In Dana’s words the wasabi root has a nutty flavour and a little bit of a spicy kick, it makes a fine, creamy wasabi paste that is great with oysters, in white sauces, mashed potatoes, salad dressings, and cold noodle dishes.
