S. Portico Bowman

S. Portico Bowman is an artist and writer and Professor of Art at Pittsburg State University. She is currently working on a book based on the life of Paulus Berensohn. The study of Berensohn’s life is a dynamic ground to integrate and accommodate Bowman’s pursuit of a personal arcadia of peace and tranquility. Her first novel Cashmere Comes From Goats is under exclusive review with Turnstone Press.

Bowman’s creative practice is grounded in meditation, yoga, chanting and when she’s very courageous, dance. She has taught a variety of art to all ages for over thirty years. She dreams of moving to the Big Island of Hawaii where she taught for ten summers.

Drawing Towards the Earth: Making Journals for Life

Learn how to draw and work with natural earth elements inspired by nature. Some of the mediums we will encounter include graphite, charcoal, and red ocher. These natural mediums lend themself to our innate calling to create. Everyone can draw, we just need to tap into the creative frame of mind. Hollyhock’s garden and surroundings will inspire design, inform creative direction, and be the source of papermaking materials. Inspired by multidisciplinary artist Paulus Berensohn (1933-2017), we will make coptic stitch Arcadia Playhouse journals and Bargelo tapestry bookmarks.
