Joy of Ukulele
With Kimo Hussey
July 7 - 12, 2019
Discover a blueprint to learning, playing and enjoying ukulele for many years. Maximize your skill and satisfaction with this inexpensive, portable, forgiving and fun instrument that is experiencing a worldwide renaissance. The three main topics of this program – right hand technique, left hand technique and music theory – offer you a map for ongoing continued practice and inspired playing.
Addressing left hand technique provides you access to the chords which allow you to play any song in any key. Right hand technique includes attention to rhythm, tempo and dynamics, all of which contribute to ensuring your music is effectively interpreted. Music theory is approached in an easy to understand format with practical application that makes the instrument sound its best. The curriculum also shares usable concepts in arranging music to be played solo or in ensemble with other instrumentalists or vocalists. Through addressing these three critical areas of music production, you’ll have an understanding and method for ongoing enjoyment of the ukulele, long after your time at Hollyhock.
Players of all levels benefit from time spent with Kimo.
In this informal shop session, Kimo Hussey offers us a musical Aloha (and a special shout-out to Hollyhock alumnus Amanda McNaughton) all the way from the Ukulele Guild of Hawaii with “In Your Hawaiian Way”:
