Hollyhock has been transforming North American society for thirty-five years. From our humble beginnings in 1982 as a project of Greenpeace founders, and human potential movement leaders, Hollyhock has catalyzed connection, collaboration, personal growth and progressive social change.

Most opportunities at our Cortes Island campus are seasonal, from April through October, with roles in garden, guest services, housekeeping, hosting, kitchen, maintenance, massage, program operations, and retail. We also have a full-time office in the heart of Gastown in Vancouver.

Director of Business Development (Cortes Island, Full-Time)

Position: Director of Business Development
Reports to: CEO
Start Date: April 01, 2018
Hours & Location: This full-time, year-round position will be based on Cortes Island during the Hollyhock season (April – October). We are open to being flexible in the off-season around location.
Salary: The starting annual salary for this role is $70,000. The salary is negotiable based on experience. Hollyhock offers a generous vacation and benefits package.

About the role

Going into our 36th season, we are looking to build on the world-class experience we offer on our Cortes Island campus by adding a Director of Business Development to our leadership team. The Director of Business Development will report directly to the CEO and will be responsible for ambitiously pursuing opportunities to increase Hollyhock revenue through program, accomodation, and meal sales, supporting fundraising and marketing, and identifying new revenue streams.

About the Role

Going into our 36th season, we are looking to build out our small but nimble fundraising department. Reporting to the Director of Development, the Fundraising Coordinator is the backbone of our fundraising operation. The ideal candidate is committed to a #donorfirst philosophy and is ready to get their hands dirty. This position will see it all, and the right person will spend their days participating in fundraising campaign strategy, processing and tracking donations, following up on pledges, maintaining donation tax records, creating fundraising collateral, assisting with grant research and writing, creating reports to funders, supporting fundraising events and overseeing the ongoing implementation of our donor recognition and stewardship program to foster positive long term donor relations.

About the Role

Reporting to the Guest Services Manager, the Registrar provides outstanding customer service at all times, to make our Hollyhock guests and visitors feel welcome and informed. The Registrar’s main duties include:

  • Conducting check – in and check – out duties for arriving and departing guests, including assigning rooms.
  • Answering inquiries about Hollyhock’s services and program registration by e-mail, telephone and in person.

About You

Our Ideal Candidate possesses:

  • Previous customer service & administrative experience.
  • Working knowledge of our facility, services and local area.
  • Experience using computers and software applications, specifically MS Office Suite and Google Apps for Work. .
  • Professional attitude.
  • Ability to respond calmly in busy situations.
  • Effective conflict management and decision- making skills.
  • Strong organizational & time management skills.
  • Experience handling cash.

About the Role

The Program Operations team ensures the smooth and successful production of all of Hollyhock’s programs, conferences group bookings and special events on our Cortes Island campus. The Program Coordinator (PC) is a point of contact for all of our Presenters, providing them with detailed and timely information and documents, before, during and after their Hollyhock program. The PC also plays a key role in collecting feedback on our programs and guest activities and helps create a brave and welcoming space for our island Presenter evenings.

About the Role

The Hollyhock Yoga instructor creates a safe and welcoming space for our guests and leads Hatha-based yoga classes focusing on gentle movement, postures, breathing and relaxation. The Yogi is experienced in leading classes with students at various levels – from beginner to advanced – providing modifications for every body. The instructor also uses their training,
experience and intuitive communication skills to provide a memorable and mindful yoga class, to help our guests prepare for the day ahead.

About You

You have a welcoming spirit and confident presence that makes your students feel safe and motivated. You’re in tune with the energy and skill level of your participants, so you can support those who need assistance while maintaining control and flow of the class. You bring your unique personality to the room, to create a rare and memorable experience with your students. You are
